[00:00:55] Hello and welcome to another episode of the Jewelry Resellers Podcast.
[00:00:59] I'm your host Desiree and today I think this is going to be a really informative episode
[00:01:05] because I'm answering a question I got and someone wanted to know all about Facebook
[00:01:13] groups and I thought about it and I said you know that would be a great topic for
[00:01:18] an entire episode and I think that this is going to be helpful because so many
[00:01:23] of us when we're trying to do research and we're trying to build our knowledge as it
[00:01:28] relates to jewelry, sometimes it's a very lonely process first of all but sometimes you're
[00:01:36] just stuck and you have no idea what you have, what you're looking at or what you
[00:01:41] should be looking at and so today I'm going to talk about the best Facebook groups
[00:01:51] that all jewelry resellers should know about or should be familiar with because this will
[00:01:59] be huge as it relates to you learning about jewelry.
[00:02:03] This is how I have learned so much and I have connected with other people who are
[00:02:08] just as passionate or just as excited about jewelry and some of these groups that I'm
[00:02:15] going to share with you today some of them are brand or designer specific, some of
[00:02:22] them are kind of open to whatever kind of jewelry, some of them are just for
[00:02:29] vintage or modern jewelry or maybe a mixture of whatever. So I have 21 Facebook
[00:02:38] groups that I'm going to share with you and if you are listening to this
[00:02:41] while you are walking or working out or driving or whatever don't worry because I
[00:02:47] will have links to each of these groups in the show notes so all you'll have to do
[00:02:52] is click on it and it will take you directly to that group on Facebook. So
[00:02:58] I am going to be focusing on Facebook today just because I think that is
[00:03:02] probably the best place and probably the place that has the most diversity
[00:03:09] as it relates to these types of educational or informational groups to
[00:03:14] really build your knowledge as it relates to jewelry. So I'm going to read off the
[00:03:20] list and they're not in any particular order and yes I am a member of all of
[00:03:25] these groups plus more I mean I'm probably in and this is not an
[00:03:29] exaggeration at least 100 100 groups that have to do with some type of
[00:03:34] jewelry but these are the ones that I tend to visit the most often and the ones
[00:03:40] that I think have been the most helpful for me. So I want to share them with you
[00:03:44] because if you are on Facebook I I do recommend that you take advantage of
[00:03:49] joining some of these groups all the ones I'm going to talk about today are
[00:03:52] free there are some paid groups out there but you can find just as much
[00:03:58] information if not more in these free Facebook groups and there's a lot of
[00:04:05] experts and people who are very knowledgeable about jewelry in these
[00:04:08] groups and so just by being in the group you have direct access to these
[00:04:14] people who are so knowledgeable and who are so willing to share what they know
[00:04:19] about jewelry. Okay so let's go ahead and get started the first group I
[00:04:25] want to mention is called jewelry hallmark and makers mark identification and I'm
[00:04:34] going to read the little group description because that'll give us an idea of
[00:04:38] what each group is about and this group says that feel free to ask questions
[00:04:44] about any piece of jewelry you have and to answer any questions that you may
[00:04:48] know the answer to be respectful no spam. So this is a general group that
[00:04:54] will help you identify markings, branding, stamps, makers mark, makers marks on any
[00:05:01] type of jewelry they don't have any stipulations or rules about you know how
[00:05:06] old the jewelry has to be whether it's vintage antique or whatever so it's a
[00:05:10] really helpful group to just kind of poke around and you will learn stuff
[00:05:15] just by scrolling through. Okay so that's the very first group I want to
[00:05:19] share it's called jewelry hallmark and makers mark identification. Alright so the
[00:05:26] next group we are going to talk about and this is the one led by my friend
[00:05:31] Rachel and her group is called Lilyworks Vintage to Modern Jewelry for reselling
[00:05:38] that's Lilyworks Vintage to Modern Jewelry for reselling and her group
[00:05:45] description is welcome to our official jewelry reselling Facebook group. I get a
[00:05:50] lot of questions in regards to identifying and reselling jewelry there
[00:05:55] are a lot of jewelry resellers and collectors here that can probably
[00:05:58] answer questions better than I can we can collaborate as a community here
[00:06:03] and help each other out Rachel. Okay so if you are not familiar with Rachel
[00:06:09] she has a very robust community and she is very active in the group and
[00:06:13] there is a lot of beautiful pictures of jewelry in her group and a lot of
[00:06:19] helpful people. Now I am one of the admins in this group so if you join this
[00:06:25] group more than likely I will see you and probably say hello so that is
[00:06:31] Lilyworks Vintage to Modern Jewelry for reselling. Alright group number
[00:06:38] three is all jewelry makers mark identification and this is a public
[00:06:45] group now some of the groups are private a lot of them are public and it's okay
[00:06:49] because you know you can find the answers or you can post questions either
[00:06:54] way I think the public groups are just more searchable and so that's
[00:06:59] probably why the people who run the groups make them public but the
[00:07:04] description for this group is a group to identify the makers of any type of
[00:07:09] jewelry with no restrictions on age so this includes modern vintage or antique
[00:07:15] jewelry and in parentheses they say anything is acceptable so this is a
[00:07:20] great group if you don't even know anything about the piece that you have
[00:07:24] you can come here post a picture maybe post a picture of the branding or the
[00:07:29] stamp or the makers mark and people will do their best to help you
[00:07:33] identify it the description goes on to say please invite your friends so we can
[00:07:40] make this an active and knowledgeable group and please at this time no sale
[00:07:44] posts if you are interested in something posted message the person who
[00:07:48] posted privately and comment letting them know so that's another thing you
[00:07:53] have to pay attention to a lot of these groups do not allow you to post
[00:07:57] jewelry pieces or jewelry items or accessories for sale unless they are
[00:08:02] specific for sale groups okay so just make sure you pay attention to the rules
[00:08:06] because I don't want you getting you know kicked out because you didn't know
[00:08:10] alright so this group again is called all jewelry makers mark identification
[00:08:16] alright number four now this is one of my favorite groups I love to hang out
[00:08:22] here and this is the bake light and other early plastics group yes there
[00:08:26] is an entire Facebook group dedicated to bake light and other types of
[00:08:30] plastics and the description for this one is a place to discuss share and talk
[00:08:36] about buy or sell vintage jewelry bake light celluloid or loose site dice pins
[00:08:44] brooches jewelry and games so anything made with some of these older plastics
[00:08:49] is acceptable to be posted in this group and I just love scrolling through
[00:08:55] this group because there are some fascinating and fun and beautiful
[00:08:59] pieces of jewelry and not everything is jewelry that gets posted in here but if
[00:09:03] you are a fan of bake light like I am I think you would really enjoy this group
[00:09:07] and again it's called bake light and other early plastics alright the second
[00:09:14] bake light group that I also enjoy hanging out in is called bake light
[00:09:19] celluloid and plastics buy and sell group and again this is another bake
[00:09:24] light group and you can buy and sell in this group and you won't only see jewelry
[00:09:30] in here you'll see a lot of other things that are fun and interesting you'll see
[00:09:36] handbags you will see kitchen utensils and all kinds of stuff so again this
[00:09:41] one is called bake light celluloid and plastics buy and sell group alright the
[00:09:49] next one I want to share is called Traffari jewelry collectors excuse me now
[00:09:56] you know that Traffari is one of my favorite jewelry brands
[00:10:04] I have been collecting Traffari for years I have bought and sold probably
[00:10:10] hundreds of pieces of all price ranges at this point in my jewelry reselling
[00:10:16] career but of course you can never know too much about this group and this is a
[00:10:21] really good place to learn about Traffari learn about the designs and the
[00:10:25] styles that are out there and this is a group that does have a lot of
[00:10:30] collectors so you will see people sharing Traffari pieces from their own
[00:10:34] personal collection as well so again this is called Traffari jewelry
[00:10:39] collectors group alright next up is a vintage jewelry identification collective
[00:10:48] group it's called vintage jewelry identification collective alright this
[00:10:53] is a place to help identify vintage jewelry we do not identify stones nor
[00:10:57] do we discuss value so again if you need help trying to identify a piece of
[00:11:03] jewelry that you know nothing about this group would be an excellent place
[00:11:08] for you to start okay and it is called vintage jewelry identification collective
[00:11:14] and remember if you are listening to this don't worry I will have links to
[00:11:19] every single one of these groups that I'm sharing with you today in the show
[00:11:24] notes okay and you can access that on jewelry resellers podcast.com
[00:11:30] alright the next group I want to share with you is called vintage jewelry
[00:11:36] collectors buy sale identify this is a group for vintage jewelry identification
[00:11:43] as well as buy and sell okay so this group is specific for vintage jewelry only so
[00:11:50] remember that is jewelry that is at least 20 to 25 years old okay so that's
[00:11:57] vintage jewelry collectors buy sell identify alright the next group this
[00:12:05] one is a pretty popular one I think many of us already know this one this is
[00:12:09] Texas gals jewelry lovers okay Texas gals jewelry lovers a Facebook group for
[00:12:16] collectors resellers and enthusiasts of vintage antique and modern jewelry
[00:12:22] okay so this one it looks like you can pretty much ask about any type of
[00:12:28] jewelry and this is a very helpful group I have been a member for years
[00:12:35] now and I have learned so much in this group you know by itself I think if you
[00:12:40] only want to join one group this probably would be the one I would recommend
[00:12:45] however if you like some of the more I guess niche specific groups like you
[00:12:53] know the bakelite or Traffari or whatever then you could join those two
[00:12:57] but if you just want one general group that's not too big Texas gals jewelry
[00:13:02] lovers group would be an excellent one for you to consider alright next up is and
[00:13:08] this is for those of you who do not want to sell you just want to appreciate
[00:13:13] beautiful jewelry and this group is called vintage jewelry appreciation no
[00:13:18] sales okay so this is a place for you to show off your own vintage estate or
[00:13:23] antique jewelry or something you truly covet or appreciate no sales are
[00:13:30] allowed at all alright so this is vintage jewelry appreciation no sales the
[00:13:38] next group I want to share with you is vintage Monet jewelry vintage Monet
[00:13:46] jewelry information buying and selling so another brand that I really love is
[00:13:51] Monet and this is a place for you to come and learn about Monet as well as
[00:13:58] to see some beautiful beautiful pieces the description of this group is I
[00:14:03] created this page as a place to sell and purchase vintage Monet jewelry I was a
[00:14:09] sales rep for this jeweler from 1979 to 1989 if you are interested in vintage
[00:14:15] Monet jewelry or Monet catalogs and advertising items this is the group
[00:14:20] for you alright and they also say anything not Monet related will be
[00:14:27] automatically removed okay so if you are interested in Monet and everything and
[00:14:33] anything having to do with Monet this is a great group for you to join alright
[00:14:41] next up is another one of my favorites because I love Sarah Coventry and this
[00:14:45] group is called Sarah Coventry and Emmons jewelry identification and history
[00:14:52] so Sarah Coventry and Emmons jewelry identification and history page is open
[00:14:58] for everyone interested in collecting or needing help identifying and sharing
[00:15:03] memories about this vintage line of costume jewelry we also have a sister
[00:15:08] group for only buying and selling now this is a really fun group because I
[00:15:14] have had again probably hundreds of Sarah Coventry pieces throughout my
[00:15:20] jewelry lifetime I used to collect it before I became a jewelry reseller so I
[00:15:26] have had so many pieces and I still have quite a few I've sold quite a few as
[00:15:32] well but I have learned so much about Sarah Coventry pieces just from this
[00:15:37] group alright another group which I think is very helpful and that is the
[00:15:48] Juliana jewelry book group now I am going to have the owner of this group on
[00:15:55] the podcast I think she said she's gonna be available this summer but if you are
[00:16:01] interested in Juliana jewelry the lady who runs this group has actually
[00:16:06] written a book about Juliana jewelry and so the book is not published I
[00:16:13] don't think not yet and so I think she has it available in e-book format but if
[00:16:19] you come to this group and if you think you have Juliana jewelry pieces this is
[00:16:23] a great group for you to see if you do or to learn about some of the ways to
[00:16:28] identify Juliana jewelry so this is a really good group to be a part of and
[00:16:34] like I said I have learned a ton and I'm still learning just by hanging out
[00:16:39] in this group the ladies in this group are so knowledgeable and they they really
[00:16:44] know their stuff so I think it's a really good group to to join
[00:16:50] alright the next group I want to share is called native Native American and
[00:16:57] vintage silver jewelry let's see now my link is not working and so I'm not
[00:17:05] quite sure but anyway if you are looking to learn about how to identify Native
[00:17:11] American and vintage silver jewelry this would be a very good group for you I'm
[00:17:15] not sure if they have certain requirements and maybe that's why I can't
[00:17:21] access the group because I just found it this morning but now my link is not
[00:17:25] working so I'm not sure I will link it anyway in case you are interested but
[00:17:30] it's a great way to learn about Native American and vintage silver jewelry
[00:17:34] alright next up I do want to share with you this group which is called vintage
[00:17:42] and antique costume jewelry identify study and share so this is a place where
[00:17:50] you can learn about vintage or antique jewelry and it's also a good place
[00:17:56] for you to share some things that you may have questions about or maybe you know
[00:18:02] you're learning and you you don't understand something about a particular
[00:18:05] piece looks like this is a really good group to be a part of and I'm looking
[00:18:11] at some of the photos here they are just absolutely beautiful this is kind
[00:18:15] of a large group it's got 44,000 members as of today but don't worry
[00:18:21] about some of these larger groups I think sometimes people get a little
[00:18:25] overwhelmed when there's so many members but when there are a lot of members in
[00:18:29] the group it's actually good because then you have more people that could
[00:18:34] possibly know the answers to the questions that you're asking so again
[00:18:39] this is vintage and antique costume jewelry identify study and share
[00:18:44] alright next up oh this is a really good group now this is called restore
[00:18:54] repair repurpose vintage costume jewelry if you make repairs or if one of your
[00:19:03] pieces is missing a stone or maybe the clasp is broken or damaged or whatever
[00:19:08] you definitely want to be a part of this group because if you're going to be
[00:19:13] doing your own repairs there are people in here who are experts and
[00:19:17] knowledgeable about what works and what doesn't as it relates to repairing or
[00:19:23] restoring jewelry now in this group I have learned how to replace stones and you
[00:19:30] know some of the things that you need in order to do that so and I've learned to
[00:19:37] just by reading some of the other posts and you will see some projects that
[00:19:41] people do and how they restore pieces and they make them look like new and
[00:19:45] there's also a lot of discussion too about you know when you restore a
[00:19:51] piece does it add to the value or does it devalue the piece so that's something
[00:19:56] that you want to consider but if you just need to learn how to make minor
[00:19:59] repairs I do recommend this group and again that is called restore repair
[00:20:05] repurpose vintage costume jewelry alright next up is a group called costume
[00:20:17] jewelry collectors vintage to now alright it's called costume jewelry collectors
[00:20:23] vintage to now this is a place to share your collection and get information on
[00:20:29] costume jewelry and post jewelry for sale from vintage to new so this is a
[00:20:35] group that does allow you to buy and sell and again sometimes you just scroll
[00:20:41] through these groups and you will learn a lot just by looking at the pieces it's a
[00:20:47] lot of fun you know if you ever have some free time maybe you don't have anything
[00:20:52] that you're doing maybe you're not busy but these groups are a lot of fun to
[00:20:56] just scroll through scroll through and look at some of these gorgeous
[00:21:01] gorgeous pieces of jewelry alright so this one again is called costume jewelry
[00:21:07] collectors vintage to now alright the next group is antique and vintage jewelry
[00:21:19] detectives identification discussion and study alright again that's called
[00:21:24] antique and vintage jewelry detectives identification discussion and study so
[00:21:31] this is a study group for antique and vintage jewelry enthusiasts the purpose of
[00:21:37] the group is to help each other solve jewelry mysteries share new additions
[00:21:42] to our collections post research resources and generally talk about
[00:21:48] anything related to vintage jewelry please feel free to join us and be sure
[00:21:53] to read the pin posts for the rules and guidelines so you can see if you
[00:21:59] have any type of burning questions as it relates to jewelry this would be an
[00:22:04] excellent group for you to post those questions and it looks like you know some
[00:22:10] of these people they know the history and the backstory of certain types of
[00:22:14] jewelry so again this is going to be another fantastic learning opportunity
[00:22:19] as it relates to some of your jewelry okay and I really like the name antique
[00:22:26] and vintage jewelry detectives identification discussion and study
[00:22:34] alright now this is a fun group because this is more about an event I guess but
[00:22:44] this is the Tucson Gem mineral and jewelry show now if you are interested
[00:22:50] in crystals gemstones semi precious stones you should be very familiar
[00:22:55] with the Tucson Gem mineral and jewelry show and the show does happen several
[00:23:01] times throughout the year and I think it's obviously the big one is in Tucson
[00:23:06] but I think they have other smaller shows throughout you know throughout I know
[00:23:12] in the United States I don't know if some of the shows are international as
[00:23:16] well but if you are attending the show this would be a great group for you
[00:23:22] to join just so you can connect with other people also some vendors are in this
[00:23:27] group so maybe if you have questions about something you'd be able to reach
[00:23:31] out and connect with them in this group as well so the description says welcome
[00:23:36] to the Tucson Gem show connect a group your go-to destination for staying
[00:23:40] connected with the gem industry all year round our vibrant community is
[00:23:46] dedicated to bringing together gem enthusiasts mineral collectors industry
[00:23:51] professionals and experts even after the excitement of the Tucson Gem show has
[00:23:57] passed alright so again I love this group I love looking at the pictures they are
[00:24:04] absolutely stunning and again you're gonna learn so much just by being in
[00:24:09] this group and if you are attending the show you definitely want to be in
[00:24:14] here just so you can you know learn what's going on or maybe there's
[00:24:18] gonna be some things that you want to make sure you don't miss okay so again
[00:24:22] this is called the Tucson Gem mineral and jewelry show group alright and the last
[00:24:31] Facebook group I want to share with you today is the Coro costume jewelry
[00:24:37] group now I love coral jewelry just like I like Trophari Monet all of those
[00:24:44] brands but Coro is one of my favorites I have sold quite a few pieces of
[00:24:48] Coro jewelry throughout the years and this is a group specifically dedicated
[00:24:53] to Coro and Coro craft jewelry okay let's see lots of pictures here and lots
[00:25:03] of people showing off their collections or beautiful pieces that maybe they are
[00:25:07] selling or maybe they just bought I don't know if this is no okay so I
[00:25:13] just read the description no sales or selling is allowed and all non-coro
[00:25:20] related posts will be deleted okay so this is a group specific to Coro costume
[00:25:28] jewelry and that's the name of the group Coro costume jewelry alright so those
[00:25:36] are the Facebook groups that I recommend at least you know to get you
[00:25:41] started I'm sure you probably have maybe your own Facebook groups that you really
[00:25:47] love and you spend a lot of time in but this is like I said going to be a
[00:25:53] fantastic resource for you to learn about jewelry to ask questions because
[00:25:59] sometimes doing what we do can be very lonely and sometimes you feel a little
[00:26:04] isolated because maybe no one in your real life likes jewelry or maybe
[00:26:09] nobody understands exactly what you're doing or why you're doing it or even how
[00:26:15] you're doing it okay so these groups are an excellent way to not only get your
[00:26:19] questions answered but also to make friends and to meet other people who
[00:26:24] have the same interests and passion as you do so let me know your thoughts
[00:26:29] what do you think do you think Facebook groups are a great way to
[00:26:35] learn about jewelry I most certainly do if there are other Facebook groups that
[00:26:41] you recommend that I did not mention please leave them in the comments I would
[00:26:47] love to know because like I said I'm a member of probably at least a hundred
[00:26:52] groups and you know one two three four or five more definitely can't hurt
[00:26:58] alright so that's gonna be it for this episode I hope you enjoyed it I hope
[00:27:03] it was helpful and if you have any questions you can reach out to me my
[00:27:08] contact information is on the website and that's jewelry resellers podcast dot com
[00:27:14] or you can like I said leave me a comment and I'll make sure to get back to you
[00:27:18] as quickly as I can alright thank you so much for spending this time with me
[00:27:23] I'll check in with you again really soon
